01 Jan Dear Darrica Is Back!
Hey everyone! If you’re in shock about the title of this post then multiply that feeling by a thousand and you’ve got how I feel. First and foremost I can’t believe I took such a long hiatus from blogging. My last blog post was in May. Secondly I honestly can’t believe I’m back. After being away for so long, I just got the feeling that maybe the passion to blog was fleeting and it was time to hang up the towel. I’m so glad that I didn’t do that. As I’m writing my heart has skipped several beats because I’m just so excited to be back. If this is your first time here, WELCOME! Before I get into what you can expect from my site in the future, let me update you on what’s been going on these past few months.
Last time you guys heard from me I was telling you about my trip to Mexico. Well that was just the beginning of my traveling days from last year. (Can’t believe it’s time to say LAST year. Time is flying by.) A few months later in July, I took a trip to go visit some family in Tennessee. I hadn’t seen them in FOREVER (dramatic) so it was really good to pay them a visit. Then in August I made my way to New York. Got to go to my fav restaurant there. Bella Napoli. They have THE best Chicken Parmesan I’ve ever tasted. I’ve been searching Chicago high and low for Chicken Parm that compares to theirs with no success. If any of you are from Chicago and you know of a good Italian place let me know! After my New York trip we went on our yearly family vacay to Georgia and Florida. We have an aunt and uncle that live in Georgia and a good friend of mine lives in Florida. It was a good time. Other than the fact that I had a sprained wrist the whole time. Failed to mention that. About three months ago I fell while trying to get up to skate. So dumb. The sad about it is that I wasn’t even skating *eye roll*. They started playing a song I love to skate to and I got up too fast. Tried to break my fall and ended up spraining my left wrist. Can you believe it’s STILL not healed all the way? Annoying. ANYWAY, moving on…..My last trip of last year was back to New York to visit my roommate who was in Nicaragua with me. It was nice being able to hang out with her and her sister. They’re a bunch of crazy cats. Never a dull moment with those two.
Besides traveling there have been some major changes in my life. Mainly two. Major change #1: I am now working as a dental assistant. I won’t go into all the details as to how that came about (it’s a looooonnnng story) but I’m so happy with my new job! I get to work with a very close family friend and this is a skill that I can take with me no matter where life may take me. I’m still learning but I’m definitely up for the challenge and super grateful for this job. Major change #2: I’m learning Haitian Creole! Yup you read that right. I’m learning a new language. It’s exciting, scary, and nerve wracking. Again I won’t go into detail as to what led to this decision but I’m really excited about it. Life has definitely been a whirlwind these last few months. I’m loving every minute of it though.
Now that you’re all caught up on what’s been going on in my life I can explain to you what to expect from the new and improved Dear Darrica! Ever since coming back from Nicaragua I’ve been really into cooking and baking. It’s like a switch flipped. I’m really passionate about it and it’s quickly become my “thing”. So why not incorporate that here and share my recipes with you guys? That’s exactly what I intend to do. Every week, unless I need to update you guys on something, I’ll be posting some of my tested recipes. Most of them will probably be baking recipes. I am completely in LOVE with baking. Don’t worry though, I’ll be throwing some dinner recipes in there too. Here you’re going to get A Pound of Life & A Pinch of Cuisine. I’m so excited to finally be back and to share with you all the good stuff I’ve been making. Thanks for stopping by! Talk to you soon!
